Preston Eugene “Gene” Cox, 75, of Oneonta, passed away at St. Vincent’s East Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 24.

He was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, was an avid Alabama fan and he loved his children and grandchildren dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Sylvester and Daffie Vandergriff Cox Jr.; and brother, Donald Ray Cox.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Cox, of Oneonta; sons, Ronnie (Fran) Cox of Demopolis and Tracy (Kelley) Cox of Oneonta; grandchildren, Kiley, Kenzie, R. J. and Jackson; sisters, Joyce Stephenson of Oneonta, Joanne McCay and Nancy McAnnally, both of Nectar; brothers, Roy Cox and Troy Cox, both of Oneonta, and Mike Cox of Nectar.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Lemley Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. with Bro. Michael Cornelius officiating. Burial will follow in the Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be R. J. Cox, Michael Gunter, David Kemp, Cody Scott, Dennis Fountain and Justin Sparks. Honorary pallbearer will be Jackson Cox.
