Every parent wants their child to succeed, and one of the simplest ways you can ensure your child’s academic success is by making a quick trip to the library.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Demopolis Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.

The Friends of the Library are helping promote Library Card Sign-up month by having Pete the Cat visit the library Sept. 8-12. Pete is available to visit preschools and classrooms during the week.

The library will also stay open until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Children, parents, teachers and caregivers can come by to meet Pete the Cat, get a library card and check out our resources.

Resources at the Demopolis Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement like free Wi-Fi, computers and printers.

Students can use their library cards from home, too. The library offers access to important educational resources, like eBooks, access to Homework Alabama, Alabama Virtual Library, and Tutor.com.

“Our library provides all types of students a welcoming atmosphere where they can explore, discover and create,” said Library Director Morgan Allen. “Students learn in a variety of ways, thanks to the resources available at the library we can meet the needs of all ages and types of learners. Whether that is through homework help, a quiet study space, or access print and e-books, the library has something for everyone – all with a free library card. It is for these reasons that a library card is most important school supply of all. Last year, 76 students received their first library card in September. We are hoping to increase this number this year with the help of Pete the Cat.”

For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit the Demopolis Public Library in person or visit the library online at www.demopolisal.gov. Call Allen or Kelley Tarpley at (334) 289-1595 if you would like Pete the Cat to visit your school or classroom.
