Thomas Edward Abernathy, 83, of Greensboro, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, at Hospice of West Alabama.

He was born Feb. 8, 1931, in Hale County to the late Grover Clifton and Lena Dean Williams Abernathy Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Clifton and Lena Dean Williams Abernathy Sr.; daughter, Lisa Abernathy Washburn; sister, Betty Jo Etheridge; and brothers, Grover Clifton Abernathy Jr., George B. Abernathy and William Morris Abernathy.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara McCrory Abernathy of Greensboro; daughters, Betty Ann Williams of Greensbro and Debra A. (Scott) Reynolds of Greensboro; grandchildren, Matthew Scott (Kyla) Reynolds, Barbara Ann Williams, Crystal Lynn Williams, Allison Leigh Washburn and Thomas Edward Reynolds; and great-grandchildren, Allen, Brandon, Emma, Chloe, Liam and Willow.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at Greensboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Vernon and the Rev. Dee McGuire officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow the church service at Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Oakwood Cemetery.
