Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital officials announced Thursday that it will no longer have semi-private rooms.

All patient rooms have been converted to private rooms.

Semi-private rooms were eliminated as of Monday, Dec. 15. The transition is part of a growing trend in community hospitals and reinforces that the patient’s overall experience is given the highest priority, according to hospital officials.

“Providing all private rooms is something that our patients desire, and we strive to do everything we can to make the patient experience a positive one here at Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital,” said acting CEO/Administrator Art Evans. “This enhancement to the amenities we offer can only benefit our patients and the medical staff as we all work together to meet this area’s healthcare needs.”

As part of the transition to private rooms, a private room payment differential will also no longer apply.

“Our nursing staff continues to be committed to providing the highest in quality care,” said Cathy Hughes, the hospital’s division director of patient care services. “And we continue to be sensitive to what the patient needs as part of the total healing process. Converting to private rooms is another step in that process.”

Bryan W. Whitfield Hospital has served the west Alabama area for more than 60 years.
