Rev. Jefferson Bryan Hatchett Jr.

The Rev. Jefferson Bryan Hatchett Jr., 86, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sept. 26, 2015.
Bryan was born March 25, 1929 to Jefferson Bryan and Louise (Taylor) Hatchett in Greenville, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William Hatchett.
Bryan graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy in 1950, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia in 1953. He was also a noted professor of Comparative Religion at Kings College in Tennessee. After serving as a Presbyterian minister for several years, he was ordained an Episcopalian priest in 1964 and lovingly served the Lord and his parishioners at churches in Virginia, North Carolina, California, Georgia, and Alabama. His most recent assignment was St. James Episcopal in Livingston. Bryan’s zest for life included sports of all kinds, especially football and golf; intellectual discussions; world history; and music of all kinds.
Bryan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Meredith Joy; daughter, Rhonda (Karen) Johnson; sister, Jane (Marvin) Giddings; nephew, Jefferson (Emily) Hattchett; niece, Kym (Martin) Lewis; and granddaughter, Julianne Lewis; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal in Livingston on Thursday, Oct. 1, followed by interment at Trinity Episcopal in Demopolis at noon.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be given to the America Cancer Society.
