The Demopolis City Schools Board of Education met briefly for a special-called meeting on Wednesday afternoon when the body approved paving projects to begin this summer.
The board and Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff have discussed at previous meetings the need for paving and resurfacing projects at three schools — Westside Elementary, U.S. Jones Elementary and Demopolis Middle School. Kallhoff said the cost of doing all of the needed projects at one time is not possible, but that the work would be done in a five-phase plan.
The board approved the first phase of that plan on Wednesday that will include projects at three schools. The work approved will include the south side pick-up area at Westside and front drive areas at U.S. Jones and DMS. The total estimated cost for those projects is $83,000.
With approval, Kallhoff said he would begin advertising for bids so that the work could be done this summer. The money for the project will come from the system’s capital overlay fund.
The board also approved to enter into a contract with Education Fuel to provide online course work and curriculum for the system’s virtual school.
The board approved to advertise for a special education position for the pre-school program.
In personnel, the board approved teacher transfers of Braswell Braswell from WES to USJE, Tracey Stewart from WES to USJE, and Brittany Dunson from USJE to the high school.
The hiring of a principal for WES was on the agenda, but was tabled to the board’s next meeting.
