According to uncertified results from Tuesday’s municipal elections, Demopolis will have a new mayor while voters in Linden will return to the polls for a runoff in its mayoral race.

John Laney ran away from the competition in a five-candidate race for mayor of Demopolis, bringing in a total of 1,112 votes. Incumbent Mike Grayson finished second with 294 followed by Don Singleton with 240. Arthur Ogden finished with 66 votes and Thedford Rowser-Bey rounded out the voted with 64 votes.

In the only race for Demopolis City Council, incumbent Harris Nelson edged challenger Steve McCants by two votes, 132-130. The remaining city council seats were not challenged.

In the Linden mayoral race, Kenneth Barrineau received the most votes with 328 ballots cast in his favor, but he could not avoid a run-off as incumbent Mayor Charles Moore received 299 votes. Frank Lankster finished with 54 votes.

The race for Linden’s District 5 council seat will also see a run-off as James “Jimmy” Pope received 63 votes and Milton Vick came in with 54.
