The Linden Patriots are on their way to the third round of the 1A state playoffs with another convincing victory, this one 48-15 over Notasulga High School.
Linden jumped out to a 21-0 lead before Notasulga got on the board with a touchdown about midway through the second quarter.
The Patriots would go on to score the next 27 points, taking a 48-7 lead with about 8 minutes to go in the game.
Linden outpaced Notasulga with 349 total yards to 188. The Patriots running game accounted for 162 yards compareed to 187 through the air.
Even with the big score, LHS Head Coach Andro Williams said his team wasn’t always clicking on all cylinders.
“We found ways to shoot ourselves in the foot early, but then we started finding ways to get things done by putting some drives together and coming up with stops on defense,” Williams said.
He added that the win was a complete team effort.
“There were no single names out there tonight. They were working together as a team and that’s how they’ve been playing all season,” he said.
With the big scores Linden has put up much of the season, Williams said it will be important for his team to stay focused as the competition gets tougher.
“We have to stay on an even keel and remain humble,” he said. “We have to be prepared to play each game at a very high level. It’s the coaches jobs to get them ready to play and the kids have to understand that things are going to get tougher.”
With the victory, Patriots will host Georgiana in Round 3 on Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m.
