Public may purchase shirts at local schools through Friday

Demopolis schools are selling t-shirts to benefit Martin Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas, a school they adopted after it was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. The proceeds will be used to purchase classroom supplies.

“After seeing the devastation in Texas following Hurricane Harvey, I began thinking about what we could do as a school and a community. I thought we could do something that would help those in Texas and be a learning experience for our students,” said Virginia Goodlett, Assistant Principal at DHS.

Amie Miller, a teacher at DHS, came up with the idea for the t-shirt and became the coordinator of the effort. The t-shirts were designed by DHS senior Keisha Bruno. Local organizers also want to provide each student at MES with one of the t-shirts.

Youth and adult-size t-shirts cost $10. Plus-size t-shirts are also available for $12-$14. Checks can be made payable to Demopolis High School and specified for Hurricane Harvey. Orders or donations are due by Friday, Oct. 20.

Goodlett also said there would “likely be t-shirts left over” if someone wants to purchase them early next week.
