Tigers headed to semi-finals with 35-14 win

The Demopolis High School Tigers kept their title hopes alive Friday night when they traveled to Pritchard to take on Vigor and returning home with a 35-14 win.

With the victory, the Tigers advance to the semi-finals when they will host St. Paul’s Episcopal, who defeated Beauregard in the third round, 52-20.

Things stayed close between the Tigers and Vigor through the first half with DHS holding a 14-6 lead at the half. But, Demopolis began to pull away in the third quarter, scoring 14, to pull to a 28-6 lead. Each team would score a touchdown in the fourth quarter, with Vigor adding a two-point conversion, leading to the 35-14 final.

Leading the charge for the Tigers was A.J. Besteder with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

DHS quarterback Andrew Patterson had a strong night throwing, completing 14-of-20 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns.

Patterson’s biggest target of the night was Tyquan Alston, who had 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The Tiger defense was strong throughout the night, especially against the rush. DHS gave up on 26 yards on the ground on 24 attempts. Through the air, the Tigers surrendered 107 yards. In all Vigor managed only 133 yards on offense.

Moving on to the semi-finals, the Tigers will face St. Paul’s whose only defeat during the 2017 season was Vigor by a score of 27-20.
