On Dec. 19, the Linden City Council held a meeting during which the council adopted a new business license tax which would result in at least $35,000 revenue per year. The tax will require companies that provide electricity directly to Linden residents and those in Linden’s police jurisdiction to pay a “privilege tax.”

Other items discussed by the council are:

• The council rescinded a business license of a gas station based on allegedly failing to report sales according to City Attorney Woody Dinning Jr.

• The council decided that the owner of Hinton’s Auto & Diesel Repair would not be required to obtain a locksmith license due to it not being the only service his business offers.

• The mayor announced the expenses of ChiLLy Fest as $1,466.

• The council approved a motion to add a streetlight at Alfa Insurance on Shiloh Street.

• The mayor also reported that the bleachers on the visitor’s side of the football complex are currently being taken down.

• The council discussed the Linden High School’s alarm system going off repeatedly. Plans were made to bring it up at the next school board meeting as it is likely the result of an error in the system.

The Linden City Council meets at 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Linden City Hall.
