Dr. Richard Bailey gave a presentation titled “Rock in a Weary Land: Black Church in 19th Century Alabama” at the Demopolis Public Library on Feb. 16 as part of their Black History Month program. Bailey is a Road Scholar for the Alabama Humanities Foundation and has written two books on Alabama History, “They Too Call Alabama Home, African American Profiles, 1800-1999” and “Neither Carpetbaggers Nor Scalawags: Black Officeholders during the Reconstruction of Alabama, 1867-1878.”
