The Linden City Council accepted property in downtown Linden consisting of a parking lot and three buildings at the corner of South Main Street and East 8th Avenue.

According to discussion during a meeting on Tuesday, March 20, the city will demolish the buildings and possibly build a new city hall at the location.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to build a nice city hall or develop it for whatever the city council decides to do,” Bruce Ward, secretary for the city council, said.

The property was offered by the Stewart family who no longer had a need for it. The city council may hire contractors to demolish the buildings or have city employees do it themselves.

“Something is going to have to be done either way,” Ward said.

Other items discussed by the council are:

• Bro. Tony Antonelli from Linden United Methodist Church invited the city council to be prayed over at the Marengo County Courthouse on April 7 at 8 a.m. as a kickoff for the community-wide revival taking place at Linden Baptist Church April 8-11.

• The council gave Katy Jordan, a representative of the Heart of Marengo Chamber of Commerce, permission to host an Autism Awareness Month event at ChiLLy Fest Park on April 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will merge all Autism Awareness events into a single county-wide event. Proceeds will be split between all of the special education classes in the county.

• Chief Alston gave an $8,200 quote for the door and alarm system but said that he will look at other options. “That’s just way more than what we need,” he said.

• Mayor Charles Moore told the council that a restroom at Scott Park had been vandalized, and he will work on getting it repaired.

• City Clerk Susie Ford presented several new options for internet providers to the council, but no action was taken at the time.

• Mayor Moore said that the tennis court needs to be paved and the cracks filled. He will try to bring a price of the materials needed to the next meeting.

The Linden City Council meets at 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the city hall.
