The Demopolis Public Library will present a Lunch & Learn program on “Forgotten Alabama” on Thursday, June 7 at noon with author Glenn Wills.

Guests will join Wills as he discusses his  journey to document Alabama’s forgotten and abandoned treasures — things that are seen every day but never really noticed. These images have been collected over the last eight years. From the really interesting to the nearly non-descript, all of these images, at least for now, still exist before time and nature eventually decide their ultimate fate. After logging more than 25,0000 miles and taking 10,000 or so photographs, Wills has barely scratched the surface of the massive landscape that is Alabama. He will also discuss his newest book “More Forgotten Alabama.”

“I spent more than 30 years in television news and racked up a lot of miles — I’m guessing half a million or more — doing my job,” Wills said. “As a result I saw a lot of Alabama and started noticing interesting things along the side of the road. I saw old abandoned buildings, signs for businesses closed for many years, cars, trucks, bridges, and schools. These things existed and served the public in one form or fashion at some point in history. Being a fan of Urban Decay I decided to start capturing these forgotten things we built and have since abandoned due to time and circumstances. My mission is to save as many as I can through pictures to preserve their memory.”

Those wishing to attend should call 289-1595 to reserve a plate lunch for $7 or bring a lunch. The Friends of the Library will provide drinks and dessert. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
