The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners has temporarily suspended the practice license of Judy O.C. Travis, M.D.

Travis is not authorized to practice medicine in Alabama as of April 16. She has been ordered by the Board of Medical Examiners to appear for a hearing on July 23, 2019.

The order temporarily suspending Travis’s license and signed April 15 states, “the Board presently has evidence in its possession that the continuance in practice of Judy O.C. Travis, M.D., may constitute an immediate danger to (her) patients and the public.” The document does not state specifics of the evidence that led to the suspension.

“(Travis) is hereby ordered to immediately cease and desist from the practice of medicine in the State of Alabama until such time as the Administrative Complaint of the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners shall be heard by the Commission and a decision rendered thereon.”

Along with being a longtime physician in Demopolis, Dr. Travis sits on the Board of Trustees for the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority, which oversees operations of Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Attempts to reach Dr. Travis’s office for comment were unsuccessful as of Wednesday afternoon.
