Local student, teacher recognized at UWA Honors Day

The University of West Alabama recently recognized outstanding students for their academic achievements and leadership roles at the institution’s annual Honors Day.

During the ceremony, 19 honor society chapters on campus recognized their new and previously-inducted members. Colleges and divisions presented nearly 50 awards for special recognition and scholarship to students in their respective fields of study. In addition, the University Scholars Program recognized an outstanding scholar in each undergraduate degree program, with the recipient having been selected by faculty in the discipline based on academic performance and participation in related activities.

Robert Bradley Jr. of Linden, a junior at the University of West Alabama, was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi international honor society in education. The son of Shirley and Robert Bradley Sr., he is a history and secondary education major.

Caitlyn “Eve” Hughes, a graduate student at the University of West Alabama, received the Aver Stephens Rumley Award from the College of Education. The daughter of Blake Zirlott and wife of Ryan Hughes, she is a pursing a master of education and is a teacher at U.S. Jones in Demopolis.
