Demopolis residents are invited to attend a public meeting and provide feedback for the purpose of developing a comprehensive strategic plan for the city.

The process of the developing the plan is being called Demopolis In Action and is an effort between city officials and Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Engineering and Architecture. The public meeting will be held Thursday, June 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Rooster Hall.

Bryan King, a community planner with Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, will present early findings based on research of economic and social trends within the city and speak more about the community plan.

“We want to find out more from the residents and figure out what is important to them. We want to know what we can do to get to where the community wants to be in the future. Once we know where we want to go, it is my job to determine the actions on how to get there,” King said.

The comprehensive plan is described as “the broadest public policy document a community can create” and establishes a long-range vision of development, housing, environment, economic development, transportation, and other topics.

“These plans have to be done by the community,” King said. “We are simply the facilitators; it must belong to the community.”
