Significant Weather Advisory issued for area

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for north Marengo, northwesters Perry, Southeaster Greene, Southern Hale and southern Sumter counties until 4:15 p.m.

At 323 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking gusty winds ahead of a line of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 9 miles southwest of Mertz, Alabama to 6 miles southeast of Tamola, Mississippi. Movement was south at 35 mph.

Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms. Wind gusts well ahead of the line of storms may cause sporadic tree and power line damage.

Locations impacted include… Demopolis, Marion, Greensboro, Uniontown, Jefferson, Forkland, Newbern, Faunsdale, Vaiden, Arcola, Dug Hill, Greensboro Municipal Airport, Pin Hook, Duffys Bend, Coatopa, Kinterbish, Chickasaw State Park, U.S. 80 and AL 28, Old Spring Hill and Belmont.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
