Marengo School Board approves milk, gas bids

The Marengo Board of Education accepted a bid from Borden Dairy to provide one percent flavored chocolate milk, one percent unflavored milk, fat-free strawberry milk and fat-free vanilla milk at $.33, $.32, $.33 and $.28 per half-pint respectively during the June 20 meeting.

Pruett Oil Company will also provide the school district’s gasoline at $2.05 per gallon of low-grade gasoline and $2.11 per gallon of diesel. LP gas will be provided by Suburban Propane at $.96 per gallon.

The board is currently soliciting bids for two cargo vans and one service truck.

The board also released their June personnel reports to the public on Monday.

Kenneth Abel and Wendy Sammons will head to A.L Johnson High School this year as special education teacher and elementary teacher respectively.

Amber McDaniel and Julia Singleton are also going to Sweet Water High School as elementary/pre-k teachers, and Amanda Smith will be employed as Sweet Water’s new bus driver.

Marengo County High School is adding Frederick Lawson as a janitor. Elizabeth Terrell is also coming back to the school as pre-k teacher after a rescind/re-hire.

The central office will also welcome a new employee as Katherine Huggins joins the office as technology coordinator.

Items also approved during the meeting include:

• application for FY2020 Federal Funds

• 2019-2020 salary schedules

• Issuance of 2019-2020 employee contracts

• 2019-2020 Federal Eligibility of Free and Reduced Meals

• FILE: JGK (Supervision of Low Risk Juvenile Sex Offenders)

• Superintendent Luke Hallmark’s personnel recommendations. Additional personnel recommendations were approved during a called meeting on June 26. They will be published at a later date.

The Marengo County Board of Education will hold the next meeting on Thursday, July 25 in the second-floor boardroom of the Marengo County Office Building in Linden. The public is invited to attend.
