Jeffersontown pitchers Camryn Warfield and Landon Rader combined on a no-hitter as Jeffersontown (Ky.) picked up its first win at the 2019 Babe Ruth World Series with a 7-1 win over the host team West Alabama at Webb Field at the Demopolis Sportsplex.

“We are known for our pitching and defense, but we did not see that in our first two games” Jeffersontown head coach Chris Rader said. “Tonight, we got ahead of hitters and played our style of baseball.

“Camryn used his two-seam fastball most of the game. He did not have his curve ball tonight. Landon does not have the fastball that Camryn has, but his curve ball was really sharp tonight.”

Warfield hurled five hitless innings for Jeffersontown. He allowed one unearned run, with eight strikeouts and two walks. He exited after throwing 81 pitches. In addition, Warfield had a two-run single to earn the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award.

Rader pitched the final two innings and recorded four strikeouts. He capped the no-hitter when he struck out pinch-hitter Montgomery Freeman to end the game.

Warfield was unaware of the no-hitter until after the game.

“I had no idea until Coach (Rader) told me after the game,” Warfield said. “I did not have my curve ball tonight, so I used my two-seam fastball.”

According to the Babe Ruth World Series record book there had been four no-hitters thrown. The list includes former LSU and Major League pitcher Paul Byrd (Louisville, 1984); Glen Versives (Jefferson City, Missouri, 1984); Clarence Johnson (New Orleans, 1985) and Stephen Webster (Tallassee, Alabama, 1993).

Jeffersontown (1-2) scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning for its win in the World Series.

Bennett Egan and Max Cherry drew back-to-back bases loaded walk to plate the first two runs of the inning. Landon Akers followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0. Warfield capped the inning with a two-run single to left to make it 6-0.

“I am confident right now,” Warfield added. “I listen to what the coaches are telling me and go out and execute.”

West Alabama scored an unearned run in the fifth inning when Kevin McElroy scored on an error by Cherry at first base.

Jeffersontown got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Rader.

West Alabama relief pitcher Fredrick Jenkins retired all six batters he faced with three strikeouts to win the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award.

After an off-day on Sunday, West Alabama will close out pool play on Monday at 7 p.m. against Chandler (Arizona).

Game 9: Chandler (AZ) 15, Wahpeton (ND) 4

Chandler (Arizona) scored nine runs in the top of the fifth inning and cruised to a 15-4 win over Wahpeton (North Dakota).

Chandler snapped a 4-4 tie with the largest run outburst of the tournament, scoring nine times in the top of the fifth inning. Jacob Espinoza highlighted the inning with a bases-loaded triple.

Chandler scores two runs in the first and third innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Wahpeton answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 4-4. Jayden King had a two-run single in the four-run inning.

In addition to Espinoza’s three-run triple, Alex McLaughlin added a pinch-hit two-run single.

Ryan Kuchurak, Josh Tiedemann and Kole Klecker all had two hits for Chandler. Kuchurak also scored four runs in the win.

Espinoza and Jack Rittenour (Wahpeton) were the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award winners. Rittenour went 2-for-3 and scored one run.

Game 10: Eagle Pass (Texas) 9, West Linn (OR) 8 (9 Innings)

Robert De La Garza smashed a walk-off single down the left field line in the bottom of the ninth inning, to score Luis Kanceff with the winning run to lift Eagle Pass (Texas) to a 9-8 come from-behind win over West Linn (Oregon).

Eagle Pass (3-0) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to complete the comeback win. Donovan Becerra drew a leadoff walk and scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Kanceff drew a two-out walk and scored on De La Garza’s single down the third base line.

De La Garza (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) also delivered the game-tying single with one-out in the bottom the seventh inning. He was also the winning pitcher on the mound for Eagle Pass as he pitched the top of the ninth inning. After he allowed the go-ahead run on a one-out double, he redeemed himself in the bottom of the frame to earn the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award.

Eagle Pass trailed 3-0, 6-2, 7-6 and 8-7 before finally winning the game.

West Linn (0-2) took an 8-7 lead in the top of the ninth inning when Drake Gable singled and scored on Jake Holmes’ double into the right-center field gap.

Gable (1-2, 3 R, Sac Bunt and 2 HBP) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning on a wild pitch. Gable recorded five strikeouts on the mound and was charged with the loss. He was named the on Tellefsen Player of the Game.

West Linn held a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning before Eagle Pass scored one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to tie the game. Juan Martinez, who scored as pinch-runner in the fifth inning, laced a game-tying two run single in the bottom of the sixth.

West Linn took a 6-2 lead with three runs in top of the fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run double from catcher Ryan Vandenbrink. Wright (single), Adian Duea (single) and Jake Holmes (walk) all scored on the bases-clearing double.

Game 11: Phenix City (Ala.) 1, Nashua (NH) 4

Nick Shaw and Nathan Smith combined on a three-hitter to lead Nashua (NH) it first win of the Babe Ruth World Series with a 4-1 win over Phenix City (Ala.).

Shaw came within one out of complete-game. He worked 6.2 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.  He picked up the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award for his efforts on the mound.

Smith recorded the final out of the game to earn the save.

Nashua scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and added single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Ryan Bourgeois (2-3, R, 2B, 2 RBI) and Colin Holbrook (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI) combined for four hits and four RBIs for Nashua.

Hayden Wippert scored the lone run (unearned) for Phenix City in the sixth inning.

Hunter Wippert, who pitched four innings in relief, won the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award for his efforts on the mound.
