UWA announces schedule for homecoming celebration

The University of West Alabama has announced the schedule for its annual Homecoming celebration, set for Oct. 12.

Homecoming activities begin on campus for students with Casino Night. The event brings together students, faculty and staff in an all-for-fun gaming style atmosphere.

The excitement continues Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the annual Serendipity talent show. Students will compete for prize money and bragging rights in various performance categories. Serendipity begins at 7 p.m. on the SUB Lawn.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, Coach Brett Gilliland, the Tiger football team, Marching Tigers, UWA cheerleaders, LUie and spirit groups will be on hand for the Homecoming bonfire and fireworks show at 8 p.m. at the Intramural Complex.

Friday kicks off alumni events for Homecoming. The annual UWA alumni party, sponsored by the National Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Affairs, is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the UWA family. The party begins Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at the courtyard of Bell Conference Center on campus. Admission to the party is $25.

During the alumni party, the UWA Campus School will host Parents’ Night Out for children age six weeks to nine years old from 6-11 p.m. The cost is $25 for one child and includes pizza and drinks, as well as entertainment and games. To register contact Kim Smith at 205-652-3832 or ksmith@uwa.edu.

Tiger Volleyball fans have an opportunity to see a match during Homecoming weekend. UWA faces West Georgia on Friday at 6 p.m. at Pruitt Gym.

Colleges and divisions will host alumni for a picnic lunch on Webb Hall Lawn beginning at 11:30 a.m. The lunch features barbecue and trimmings, and alumni are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or quilts to be comfortable and enjoy the gathering. Tickets are $15 per person, and can be purchased online at www.uwa.edu/homecoming.

Festivities continue at 1 p.m. when UWA students and organizations, special guests, and marching bands from across the state wind through Livingston and back onto campus at Stadium Drive for the annual Homecoming parade.

UWA and Shorter kick off at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. The homecoming court will be presented and the new queen will be crowned. General admission for the game is $15. For more details on ticketing visit uwaathletics.com.
