An area of north and west central Alabama, including Marengo County, has been placed under a freeze warning by the National Weather Service. The warning will be in effect from Friday evening through Saturday morning.

According to the NWS, the north half and west half of central Alabama can expect temperatures as low as 29 degrees overnight.

Frost and freezing conditions could kill some vegetation and damage unprotected plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
