Marengo County has seen one its highest increases of confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past week.

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, the county’s total confirmed cases of the coronavirus stands at 221, an increase of 37 from last Tuesday’s reported total of 187. The total number of deaths related to the virus stands at nine for the county.

The ADOPH reports that 2,135 people have been tested in Marengo County.

Testing for the coronavirus continues to be available at Whitfield Regional Hospital. The hospital will also be partnering with the South Marengo Fire and Rescue Squad to provide COVID-19 testing on June 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of the SMFR station located at 34818 AL Hwy. 10 in Sweetwater. The WRH Mobile Health Unit will be parked at the front of the station. A physician’s order is required and those being tested should remain in their vehicle as a nurse will come to administer the test.

The Rural Health Medical Program is offering testing at the Demopolis Health Center, 1502 Hwy. 80 East Unit A, on Wednesday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. The RHMP will also be at the Uniontown Health Services, 330 Old Hamburg Rd., on Monday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Cahaba Medical Care will hold a pop-up test site at the Marion Health Center, 303 Washington Street. Call  334-247-1006 for more information about this site.

Tuesday’s updated COVID-19 data for surrounding counties includes: Sumter County has reported 263 cases and 11 deaths; Wilcox County has 223 cases and eight deaths; Greene County has 132 cases, five deaths; Hale County has 235 and 15 deaths; Clarke County, 191 cases and three deaths; Dallas County is reporting 503 cases with six deaths; Choctaw County has 175 cases and 11 deaths; and Perry County is reporting 75 cases with no deaths.

Statewide there are 25,892 confirmed cases of the virus, an increase of over 4,800 since Tuesday, June 9.  The ADOPH reports 13,508 presumed recoveries. The state has recorded 769 confirmed deaths with five additional probable deaths. The number of hospitalizations is 2,259. The total number of Alabamians tested has reached 302,294.
