Linden City Council seeks grant for road work

The Linden City Council voted to pursue a $250,000 grant for road work projects during the most recent meeting.

Marengo Academy High School building was sold and may become a charter school or virtual school. There has been no confirmation on what the plans are for the school building. There were also talks of the elementary school being up for sale, but the council reported that the school did not sell.

Mayor Charles Moore announced that the Linden Family Dollar sent in information that they are going to tear down the old Dollar General building on Main Street and build a new Family Dollar in its place.

The council voted to cancel the Summer Carnival this year.

Moore also proposed a donation of $5,000 to the Marengo Nursing Home. “I’m sure they’ve had more expenses during the pandemic,” he said. The council voted to amend the city budget to donate the money to the nursing home.

The council agreed to leave the Linden curfew at 9 p.m. to which Police Chief Robert Alston Jr. agreed.

The Linden City Council meets every first and third Tuesday at city hall at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
