“Here’s to strong women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”

That’s a quote that I have often quoted and had quoted to me. Over the last few months, I’ve had time to pause and think about this. Mainly because I’m rearing my own daughter to be a fearless woman in her own journey and I want her to know that she can do anything, but there are some things she’s asked me over the last few months. Mainly, “Mama, why don’t other women support women’s victories.”

Ah, my sweet darling girl, you are so right.

She’s namely talking about women’s response to a woman vice president simply because she doesn’t uphold the same values as some.

You don’t have to support a candidate’s politics, policies or values to understand that this was a paramount election and victory for women.

We have for years told our daughters “you can be anything you set your mind to” but a woman winning the vice presidency makes that real for all little girls. It shows that the walls are being torn down.

We have to get to a point where we support other women’s victories.

We are never going to 100 percent agree with anyone. But it’s imperative that our little girls know and understand that no matter where they come from, no matter what cards they are dealt, that they can rise to the occasion and find success in life.

That they can truly “do anything they set their minds to do.” We do not need to let that be something that we simply say to them, we need to believe it with everything we are and help our daughters get to that point.

Women are the majority of our nation’s population and it’s time for us to go to work.

We can’t sit idly by, we have to fight the fight and teach our daughters to think for themselves and fight for what is important to them.

We also have to teach them to meet others in the aisle and work out our problems with open minds to reach an end solution that can work for all involved.

We need to teach them to be fierce but compassionate. Have a no-nonsense attitude but also be willing to listen. We have to teach them to stand at the front of the pack and fight like their lives depend on it.

Many other women fought for us to have the chances we have.

Now, we must fight so that women in leadership and power is so much the norm that it’s not even considered a feat anymore.

Think about it, this could pave the way for a woman in office who believes like you do whether you are conservative or liberal.
