The Mustard Seed has been named the May Business of the Month by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce. It is located at 101 W. Washington St.

The Mustard Seed is a trendy and unique gift shop and coffee shop that is beloved by Demopolis locals. The Mustard Seed was opened in 1976 and its current owner, Laurie Young, has owned the business for seven years.

The Mustard Seed has a variety of merchandise including gifts for men, women, children, weddings, and bridal registries. The store also sells foods like casseroles, lunches to go, chicken salad, chicken pot pie, salads, specialty beer and wine, and homemade ice cream.

When COVID-19 hit last year, The Mustard Seed closed its doors to the public, but employees continued to work and deliver foods to customers. They delivered to homes, cars, and curbside service.

“We were blessed beyond measure that the business stayed up,” said owner Laurie Young. “We had a loyal group of customers who would come for things they’d ordered.”

Young said that she and her staff are thrilled to have been chosen as the business of the month.

“We’re tickled to death about it. The girls who work here really put their best foot forward and we strive to make everyone happy when they come in,” said Young. “I have some hard working employees here.”
