Sylvia Holland

Sylvia Holland, of Hartford, AL, age 94, went to be with The Lord Jesus on Nov 13, 2021. Sylvia was born in Geneva on Oct 27, 1927, and married her best friend, the late Earl Holland in 1945. She lived in Hartford until 2014 and then moved to a nursing home in Demopolis, AL.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church of Hartford 205 South 3rd Ave. with Rev. Bill Messer officiating. Interment followed in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.

Sylvia enjoyed her family, church, cooking, crafts, antiques, estate and yard sales. Sylvia had an uncommon love for people. While in Hartford she was a den mother for Cub and Boy Scouts and an active member, Sunday school teacher and the first female Board of Stewards of the First United Methodist Church.

As a nursing home resident in Demopolis, she hand crafted over 100 doll houses for children and created cards and paintings for the residents. She was selected as 2015 Ms. Alabama Nursing Home and served as an ambassador for nursing home residents at several Alabama Nursing Home Association events.

Sylvia is survived by James Holland of Hartford, Sharon Holland McAliley of Auburn, Stanley and Cheryl Holland of Middleton, MA, Gary Brown of Panama City, FL, and his two daughters Mary Frances Brown and Ellen Brown of Auburn and Walter Brown of St. Petersburg, FL. Sylvia was a grandmother to Chris Holland of Dallas, TX, Wesley and Jamie Holland of Jacksonville, FL, Benjamin and Kris-Ann McAliley of Eufaula and Daniel and Michelle McAliley of Trussville. Sylvia had eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Sylvia has two surviving sisters; Elizabeth Beck of Tampa and Peggy Dixon of Lakeland, FL. She is predeceased by her son Greg Holland.
