Mrs. Luvandy (Lue) Thomas Sheppard

Mrs. Luvandy (Lue) Thomas Sheppard, 84, went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2022.

She was born to Flossie and Reese Thomas in Jefferson Alabama on May 16, 1938. Lue graduated from U. S. Jones High School in Demopolis, AL and attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham. She retired from the State of Alabama, Commercial Driver’s License Office. Lue previously worked at UAB Hospital, and for the NAACP.

She accepted Christ as a child at Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, AL. Lue was a member of Hopewell Church, Jacksonville, FL., under the leadership of Dr. Gary L. Williams, Sr.  Prior to moving to Jacksonville, she was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church, Rev. Dexter Hazzard, Pastor.
Lue was preceded in death by parents, Reese & Flossie Thomas; Son, Kerwin Sheppard. Brothers, Reese Thomas, Jr. Tony Thomas, Sr, Simmie Thomas, and Ray Thomas; Nephew, Laurence T. Colon.

Survivors include:  daughter Carmen Sheppard, Jacksonville, FL; Sisters, Ruth Thomas and Blondee Thomas, both of Tuscaloosa, AL.  Lauretta Thomas, San Diego, CA. Brother, Elmore Thomas of Long Beach, CA. Sister-in-law, Velma Thomas.  Grandchildren: Kristofer Sheppard, Ft. Hood, TX.  Jaleesa Sheppard, Schae Smiley, Birmingham, AL

Favorite Niece: Patricia (George) Glover; Veldemetric (Bryan) Lopez, Katina Thomas, Isis Thomas, Seretha Ann Williams, Kim Etta Hullum, Anna Laura (Clarence) Mitchell, Geneaver Green, Sharon Bertram, Rita Rogers, and Regina Rogers. Nephews: Tony (Michelle) Thomas, Jr, LeRoy Allen, Jr., Marvin (Susan) Rogers, Jr.

Lue enjoyed traveling as a model with the Flora McGhee Charm and Modeling School and participating in the 1965 March in Selma while working for the NAACP.

Graveside services provided by Eastside Funeral Home will be held Friday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery, 431 North 60th Street. Birmingham, AL 35212.
