During the July 14 Linden Board of Education meeting, Dr. Timothy Thurman provided updates on the gym floor project at G.P. Austin Middle School and third grade testing improvements.

Thurman reported that work has begun on the gym floor at G.P. Austin, and teachers have moved back into the building to begin preparing for the 2022-2023 school year. Offices are expected to be occupied beginning the week of July 18.

Under new business, Thurman was pleased to report 23 of the school system’s 30 third graders scored on or above passing.

“Our numbers were outstanding. I expected them to be, but they were very good,” said Thurman. “The teachers at the elementary school should be commended for their work in helping our students.”

The high school also saw increases on CCR (College and Career Readiness) testing.

Thurman also reported that the state department is allocating funding for LCS to have its own Career Coach. The school system has been sharing a Career Coach with the county for several years, but now have the opportunity to have their own. Thurman said they are looking to establish the position in the near future.
