$20,809.13 in Fall 2022 Classroom Grants Awarded to Demopolis City Schools

Teachers and students across the Demopolis City School system were surprised recently when “The Prize Patrol” visited their classrooms with the announcement of Fall Grants. A total of $20,809.13 was awarded to Westside Elementary, US Jones Elementary, Demopolis Middle School and Demopolis High School.
“Presenting the grant awards is the best day of the year for the Foundation! This was my first time having this opportunity and seeing the excitement on the teachers’ and children’s faces was so rewarding. It was the first time a few teachers had received grants and to see their reactions when the grants “The Prize Patrol” walked in their classrooms made a lasting impression! These moments are some of the highlights in my career as the Executive Director of DCSF. Westside Elementary School
- $768.87 to Penny Stanford for the purchase of technology themed trade books that can be used in the computer lab to help teach students about coding, computer basics, and digital citizenship
- $3,501.00 to Laurice Thomasson for the purchase of items to help bring the new knowledge curriculum with CKLA to life
- $2,000 to Andrea Johnson for the purchase of nonfiction books for the library collection
- $50 to Haley Sager for the purchase of fidget bands to use in her Kindergarten classroom
- $899.25 to Dale Foster for the purchase of drums to help elementary students with rhythm lessons
US Jones Elementary School
- $2,000 to Emily Windham for the purchase of graphic novels for the library
- $2,500 to Suzann Hughes for the purchase of art supplies, general and adaptive, to ensure equal experiences regardless of ability
Demopolis Middle School
- $1,634.45 to Julie Foster for the purchase of broadcasting equipment to replace old and broken equipment
- $1,295.60 to Carrie Williams for the purchase of materials to build shelving units to be used in Lab 212 for Career Exploration and Science supplies
- $259.96 to Susan Browder for the purchase of computer programs and platforms for digital devices to enhance learning and strengthen skills in the classroom
Demopolis High School
- $2,000 to Lisa Lawrence for the purchase of books and project supplies for the library
- $3,900 to Carrie Goodman for the purchase of color graphing calculators for students to use in the classroom which will replace outdated graphing calculators

Demopolis Middle School teacher, Julie Foster, received a $1,600 grant to bring back Tiger News Media. Mrs. Stanford and her class were excited to receive a grant for technology themed trade books that help teach students about coding, computer basics, and digital citizenship.
Laurice Thomasson, Westside Elementary 2nd Grade Teacher, received a $3,501 grant to help bring the new knowledge curriculum with CKLA to life and put the knowledge into the palm of the students’ hands. She is pictured with her class, Margaret Anne Gilchrist (DCSF Executive Director), and Tisha Lewis (WES Principal and DCSF Board of Directors Member). Some of the activities from this grant include getting to build the Great Wall of China, constructing the Himalayan Mountains, and 3D organ aprons to help learn the different organs that make up the human body.
