U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Montgomery, was the distinguished speaker for the Marion Military Institutes’s Anthony J. Rane Center for Leadership Wednesday.
Speaking in MMI’s historic Chapel, Britt shared her journey to win the 2022 Alabama U.S. Senate race. She encouraged the audience to stand firm in their own convictions.
“Do not let what other people think limit what is possible for you,” Britt said according to a press release. “It is absolutely true that the world places limitations on us. But I have found, in my life, that it is the limitations we place on ourselves that do the most damage. So believe in what you are capable of, block out the noise of the world, and go.”
Britt also noted the importance of staying true to your values in leadership positions, mentioning sage advice given by her grandfather.
“The things that will determine your path in life, Katie, are your character, your integrity, your work ethic, and the way you treat people. And I’ve got great news. You, and only you, control all four of those things,” she said.
In closing, she stressed building relationships based on trust and respect and standing back up after life’s failures.
Following the address, the corps of cadets conducted a noon pass in review in her honor. Multiple students talked with Britt about their personal path to Marion. Afterwards, select cadets and MMI administrators joined Britt and her staff for a luncheon in the new dining hall’s special event space.
