Geraldine Tucker Phillips of Linden peacefully passed away and entered into eternity with her Savior on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband B.S. Phillips, her parents Jim and Myrtis Tucker, and her siblings Jessie Earl Tucker and Effie Grey Tucker Kelley.
She is survived by her two children, Kerry Phillips Gibbs (Lee) of Selma and Barry Scott Phillips Jr. (Laura) of Demopolis; her five grandchildren, Brandon Gibbs, Gregsby Gibbs (Katie), Kendall Gibbs (Claire), Eli Phillips and Easton Scott Phillips; her five great- grandchildren, Maggie Gibbs, Emeline Gibbs, Elle Gibbs, Tucker Gibbs and Lallie Gibbs; her sister-in-law, Amy Tucker; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Geraldine was born in Myrtlewood on Nov. 1, 1931 to Jim and Myrtis Tucker. She grew up attending primary school in Myrtlewood followed by Linden High School where she was a Red Devil cheerleader. At age 18, she met and fell in love with B.S. Phillips of Linden.
They married on June 2, 1950 and remained inseparable throughout their 72 years of marriage before his passing in 2023. Among raising a family, Geraldine first worked as church secretary and substitute at Linden High before loyally working for the State of Alabama in the Department of Human Resources until her retirement.
Geraldine was the epitome of Southern hospitality coupled with Christian love. Not only was her fine home-cooking known by everyone around, but so were her charm, kindness, and service to others. Geraldine found joy in gardening, as evidenced by her immaculate yard and ever-blooming flowers. Geraldine walked through life with a gentle strength and classiness, touching the lives of everyone near her. She was a dedicated member of the Quest Club of Linden where she spent countless years meeting the needs of others within the community as well as mentoring younger ladies who came after her. Linden Baptist Church held a special place in Geraldine’s heart where she was baptized on Oct. 4, 1952 and remained a devout member for the next 72 years. It is here that she and B.S. faithfully grew and served the Lord together. She was a steadfast member of the Linden Baptist Choir and joyously continued to sing hymns for the remainder of her earthly life. Geraldine leaves behind a legacy of character, faith, and love. Memorials may be made to the Legacy of Faith Building Fund at Linden Baptist Church, P.O. Box 480776, Linden, AL 36748.
Graveside funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. at Linden Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Johnny Arnett, Brandon Gibbs, Gregsby Gibbs, Kendall Gibbs, Dennis Mason, and Eli Phillips.
