Main Street Demopolis wants anyone and everyone who wants to give some help create a vision for the downtown area to come take a walk with them next Wednesday evening.

The organization is hosting a Walking Visioning Tour on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning at the Marengo County History & Archives Museum located at 101 N. Walnut Ave.

Main Street director Rhea Darsey is encouraging everyone to come out and talk about what they want to see here in the community.

“Everyone is welcome,” Darsey said. “You don’t have to be a business owner. We’re looking for input from as many people as possible from all different walks of life. We want to hear about what they’d like to see here, what are the gaps that we’re missing. It’s anything from restaurants to entertainment.”

Darsey said this tour is a part of an ongoing project with the parent Main Street organization to research the area and help develop a report about what.businesses are needed, what businesses could work in the area, measuring foot traffic in the downtown area and how much would be needed to repair and upgrade buildings currently in downtown.

With this information in the realty report, Darsey said they could hopefully attract potential business owners and companies to the area.

“The information in this report is needed for business owners if they will need to take out loans to open a new business in downtown,” Darsey said. “It will also show what kind of gaps in businesses that we could have. So, it’s very important that we get as much input from the community as possible.”

During the tour, the group will walk around downtown look at the area, especially looking at vacant buildings to see the condition and to dream about what could work in those areas.
