Last week, the Marengo County Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2025 at the Demopolis Civic Center.
By now, I am sure you know who was inducted. If not, the four newest members of the hall included Kevin Deal, James Moody, Victor Scott and Major Walker. The team of the year was the 1985 Demopolis Academy state champions.
Nate Norris of Sweet Water was recognized as the Tre Jones Memorial Scholarship recipient.
One thing I will tell you is that Marengo County is blessed to have such an organization put this on every year. I don’t know too many communities the size of Demopolis who do something like this. It’s special and something that the community should really embrace.
And it’s not just the fact that they put on this event. It’s the quality of it. First of all, the Civic Center is a phenomenal facility. It’s one of the best banquet halls I’ve seen in a community this size.
Secondly, they put on a world-class event with the speakers, trophies and plaques, meal, everything associated with the event was top notch.
Lastly, the people who are in the Hall of Fame appear to be the best kind of people you can meet. They are all hard-working men and women who earned their spot alongside the best of the best in our area.
“I want to thank this committee, first of all, and our presenter for just choosing me to be inducted in this hall in the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame,” Walker said. “It means a lot. I’m very honored.”
The committee does a great job each year. They select great people and recognize great teams. And they support one local kid each year with a scholarship.
If you know someone who you think deserves a nomination, the committee asks you to nominate them. They take nominations from the community. They have an application process. Those nominations for the next year will need to be submitted by Oct. 1. That deadline will be here before you know it.
We know events like this take a lot of preparation and planning. I would like to congratulate everyone involved with a job well done. We will see you next year.
