Demopolis softball goes 3-2 in opening tournament

The Demopolis Lady Tigers softball team opened up the season going 3-2 in an opening tournament over the weekend.

They fell 4-1 to Faith Academy before rebounding with three straight wins over Excel (1-0), Leroy (3-0) and another team 7-5. They closed out the tournament with a 9-5 loss against Blacksher.

 

Faith Academy 4, Demopolis 1

Caroline Hathcock drove in Lily Turberville, who had the team’s other hit, for the Tigers’ only run. Lizzie Thornton and Annagayle Aultman reached on walks.

Allie Hughes took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks with a strikeout.

 

Demopolis 1, Excel 0

Elleigh Dossett scored the game’s only run on an error after she advanced on a passed ball. She, Hathcock and Maddie Grace Teel had the only hits for Demopolis. Dossett, Olivia Lindsay and Thornton also drew walks.

Aultman got the win, pitching a no-hitter in four innings with six strikeouts and three walks.

 

Demopolis 3, Leroy 0

The fifth inning was the big inning for Demopolis. Hathcock doubled in Aultman and Turberville to start the scoring. Dossett then doubled in Hathcock for the game’s only runs.

Aultman, Lindsay, Dossett and Hathcock garnered the only hits for Demopolis.

Aultman pitched a one-hit shutout over four and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Hughes came in for the final out.

 

Demopolis 7, Team N/A 5

Hathcock went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Dossett was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the way. Tell was also 2-for-2 with an RBI. Turberville and Hughes also had two hits in the win.

Hughes pitched two and one-third innings allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Aultman came on in relief finishing the game with one and two-thirds innings allowing one run on three this with two strikeouts.

 

Blacksher 9, Demopolis 5

After falling down 9-0, the Tigers battled back but came up short in the final inning.

Teel, Thornton, Lindsay, Jadie Hasty and Maddie Barkley all had hits for Demopolis. Thornton led the team in RBIs with two while Lindsay, Hasty and Barkley all drove in runs. 

Hughes took the loss allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in two innings. Teel allowed four run on two hits with a walk in one-third inning of work. Aultman pitched allowed a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in one-third inning. Barkley allowed no runs on a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
