Demopolis softball gets one win in weekend tournament

The Demopolis softball team went 1-3 in the Hillcrest Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

They opened the tournament with a 14-0 loss to Lawrence County and a 12-0 loss to Lawrence County on Friday night. They rebounded with a 7-4 win over host Hillcrest before falling to Tuscaloosa County 8-4 to end the weekend.

The Lady Tigers are now 4-6 on the season. They traveled to West Blocton Tuesday night and will travel to Hillcrest on Friday. They will return home on Monday against Hale County

Demopolis 7, Hillcrest 4

The Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning and then held off Hillcrest to earn the win. 

Jadie Hasty, Allie Hughes and Annagayle Aultman led the way with two hits each while Elleigh Dossett, Maddie Grace Teel and Lizzie Thornton also had hits. Hasty drove in two runs while Hughes, Teel and Thornton had one RBI each.

Aultman went the distance striking out five in four innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks.

 

Demopolis 0, Thompson 14

No Tiger reached base in the three-inning game. Hughes took the loss with one strikeout while Teel also had a strikeout.

 

Demopolis 0, Lawrence County 12

The Tigers had six hits but could not string them together to get a run. Aultman, Teel, Dossett, Thornton, Olivia Lindsay and Hasty all had hits. Aultman took the loss with two strikeouts in four innings. Hughes pitched one inning in the loss.

 

Demopolis 4, Tuscaloosa County 8

The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth and final inning, but they couldn’t overcome the 8-0 deficit to the Wildcats.

Lindsay led the way with a 2-for-2 outing with two RBIs. Aultman also had an RBI. Thornton and Hasty had the other hits for Demopolis.

Hughes took the loss in three and one-third innings of work with one strikeout. Teel also pitched two-thirds of an inning.

 

Demopolis 4, Bibb County 14

The Demopolis varsity softball team fell to Bibb County 14-4 on the road Tuesday.

The Choctaws took advantage of seven errors to get the win in five innings.

The Tigers had 11 hits in the loss. They were led by Lily Turberville, Allie Hughes and Jadie Hasty with two hits each. Turberville also drove in a run and scored for the Tigers while Hughes scored a run.

Lizzie Thornton had a triple with an RBI. Other hitters collecting a hit included Caroline Hathcock, Maddie Grace Teel, Elleigh Dossett and Annagayle Aultman. Teel added an RBI.

Hughes took the loss allowing five runs, only two of which were earned, on two hits and three walks. Aultman allowed six runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout. 

Maddie Barkley pitched two innings allowing three runs, all unearned, on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Demopolis will return home Thursday at 4:30 p.m. with a game against American Christian Academy.
