Tigers split doubleheader on opening day

The Demopolis baseball team opened the 2025 season on Saturday at Oak Mountain, falling in the first game 6-2 before winning game two 9-2.

Colton Colgrove and D’Quarius Banks had home runs with three RBIs each to lead the Tigers in the win.

Colgrove went 3-for-4 in the win while Banks was 1-for-3.

Braxton Vice, Roper Houldhitch, Jack Pritchett and Tucker Capps also singled in the win. Capps scored twice.

Colgrove earned the win with four strikeouts in three innings of work. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk. Houldhitch also had three innings of scoreless work allowing just one hit and racking up three strikeouts. Josiah Colgrove came on in relief allowing one run on one hit in one inning of work.

The Tigers got on the board in the second inning with four runs highlighted by Banks’ homer. They added three more in the fourth inning on Cosgrove’s home run and two more insurance runs in the fifth innings. 

Oak Mountain scored one in each of the second and seventh innings.

The Tigers committed five errors in a loss to Oak Mountain. All six runs allowed were unearned.

Braxton Vice took the loss allowing five runs on two hits and one walk despite four strikeouts. Bryce McElroy pitched three and one-third innings allowing one run on one hit and three walks with a strikeout.

Jake Powell, D’Quarius Banks, Jake Bumgarner and Tucker Capps had the four hits for the Tigers. Bumgarner and Capps drove in their only two runs.
