Sweet Water sweeps Marengo

The Sweet Water Bulldogs had a pair of no-hitters as they a dominated county rival Marengo during a 15-0, 15-0 sweep of a doubleheader Monday, March 3.

Also over the past week, the Bulldogs defeated Clarke County 14-7 on Feb. 25 while falling to T.R. Miller 8-1 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (6-3) return to action at Jackson on Thursday at 5:30 p.m and, at Demopolis on Friday at 4 p.m. Sweet Water then hosts Jackson Monday at 4 p.m. followed by Demopolis at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11.

Marengo (0-2) will travel to Clarke County for a doubleheader with the host team at 11 a.m. followed by a game with McIntosh at 1 p.m. The Panthers return home Tuesday with a doubleheader against Sumter Central at 4 and 5:30 p.m.

 

Sweet Water 15-15, Marengo 0-0

In game 1, Sweet Water had just six hits as Nate Norris led the way with a 2-for-2 outing with an RBI. Tim Kelley, Sammie Walker, Jordan McManus and D.J. Lucy all had hits. McManus drove in two runs while Kelley, Walker, Bradyn Norris and Lucy each drove in one run.

Bulldogs also reached on five walks and two hit batters.

McManus got the win with two strikeouts in one inning. Evan Dunn had a strikeout and a walk in one inning of work.

Kiing Fisher took the loss. The Panthers allowed 10 unearned runs and five earned runs. Derrick Poellnitz was the only base runner who drew a walk.

In game two, three Panthers reached base as Jordan Moore walked and Center Bruno and Michael James were hit by a pitch.

Sweet Water ended the game after scoring 15 runs on five hits and six walks through three innings. McManus led the way with a home run and a single with two RBIs. Maitland Morgan, Bradyn Norris and Gage Megginson had the hits. E.J. Lucy, Megginson and Morgan also had RBIs.

Megginson also picked up the wins with seven strikeouts in three innings of work. He allowed only one walk and two hit batters.

 

Sweet Water 14, Clarke County 7

The Bulldogs scored seven in the first inning, one in the third inning and six in the sixth inning to take the win over Clarke County.

DJ Lucy led the way on a 4-for-5 day with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Jordan McManus and Maitland Morgan were both 2-for-5. McManus had a double while Morgan drove in a run. Tim Kelley had a double while EJ Lucy had a single. 

McManus struck out seven in four innings to get the win. He allowed one earned run on a hit and three walks. DJ Lucy pitched an inning and allowed two runs on two walks with a strikeout. Aiden Brown closed out the game with four strikeouts in two innings. He allowed two earned runs on three hits with no walks.

 

Sweet Water 1, T.R. Miller 8

Sammie Walker and Nate Norris both went 2-for-3 in the game, but no other Bulldog batter had a hit in the loss.

Norris also had a double while Walker had an RBI. DJ Lucy walked and scored Sweet Water’s only run. Tim Kelley also walked while Bradyn Norris reached after being hit by a pitch. 

Walker took the loss allowing eight runs, only three were earned due to five errors, on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Aiden Brown had a scoreless inning with a hit and three strikeouts.
