Tiger baseball picks up four wins during busy week

The Demopolis Tiger baseball team played six games over the past week, winning four of them.
They defeated Gordo 8-0 on Feb. 25 and Sipsey Valley 10-1 on Thursday, March 27. The Tigers fell to Northridge 4-2 before rebounding with a doubleheader sweep of Clarkdale (Miss.) 9-7 and 5-0 on Saturday. The Tigers rounded out the week with a 5-2 loss to Hillcrest.
Demopolis hosts Marengo County foe Sweet Water on Friday at 4 p.m. and Northridge at noon Saturday. The Tigers will make the return visit to Sweet Water on Tuesday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
Demopolis 8, Gordo 0
Braxton Vice went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs to pace the Tiger attack. Jake Powell went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Roper Houldhitch, Bryce McElroy and Michael Daniels all singled. McElroy’s hit resulted in two RBIs.
Jake Bumgarner earned the win striking out four batters and scattering three hits and one walk. Jack Pritchett allowed only two walks with two strikeouts in two innings of work. Josiah Colgrove had a scoreless inning of work with two strikeouts.
Demopolis 10, Sipsey Valley 1
The Tigers pounded out 14 hits led by Colton Colgrove with two singles and a double with an RBI. Jake Powell had a triple, a single and two RBIs. Roper Houldhitch and Jake Bumgarner each had a single and double in the win. Reed Schumacher also had two singles followed by Tucker Capps with one single.
Demopolis scored their runs in the first four innings. They had one in the first and second innings followed by six in the third inning and two in the fourth inning.
Sipsey Valley scored one in the fifth inning to prevent the mercy rule win, stretching the game to seven innings.
Demopolis 2, Northridge 4
The Tigers had three hits from Roper Houldhitch, Jack Pritchett and Bryce McElroy, but they could only score two runs. Pritchett and Braxton Vice drove in the only runs of the game. Colton Colgrove and Jake Powell scored the only runs after reaching on walks.
Houldhitch took the loss going four and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Only three runs were earned.
J.W. McAlpine pitched the other one and one-third innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
Demopolis 9-5, Clarkdale 7-0
The Tigers scored nine runs on nine hits to take game one, holding off a surge by Clarkdale in the late innings.
Jack Pritchett led the way with a home run and four RBIs, finishing 3-for-4 on the day. Braxton Vice also had a double and two singles. Jackson Hasty, Roper Houldhitch and Michael Daniels had the other hits for the Tigers.
Tucker Capps earned the win with two-thirds of an inning of work with one strikeout. Vice got the start in four and one-third innings allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and strikeout. Hasty allowed two runs in one-third of an inning. Reed Schumacher allowed a run on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. Josiah Colgrove earned the save with one inning of work allowing one run on two hits and two walks.
Colton Colgrove pitched six innings of scoreless baseball with eight strikeouts and scattering three hits and an walk. J.W. McAlpine pitched the final inning allowing only one hit.
Colton Colgrove helped his own cause going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Jack Pritchett, Bryce McElroy and D’Quarius Banks had the other hits in the win.
Demopolis 2, Hillcrest 5
The Tigers had just three hits against the Patriots. D’Quarius Banks, Roper Houldhitch and Jake Powell earned those hits. Banks had a triple while Powell had a double.
Pritchett took the loss allowing three runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Jake Bumgarner opened the game with four innings of scoreless pitching, scattering five hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Josiah Colgrove allowed two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
