Tiger softball snaps losing streak with dominant win

The Demopolis Tiger softball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 19-9 win over Hale County on Monday, March 3. 

That followed a 12-0 loss to West Blocton on Feb. 25 and a 12-1 loss to Hillcrest on Friday, Feb. 28.

Demopolis (5-8) returns to action with an area game at Selma on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Jemison on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m.

Demopolis 19, Hale County 9

The Tigers exploded for five runs in the first inning and 12 runs in the second inning to blow the game open. 

Hale County also scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning, as Demopolis led 17-7. 

Hale County added runs in the third and fifth inning to to cut the lead to 17-9. Demopolis added one run in the fifth inning and then walked the game off in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the 10-run margin.

Demopolis had a season-high 17 hits in the win, as seven Demopolis batters had multiple hits.

Caroline Hathcock led the way with two singles and a double with three runs scored. Lizzie Thornton had a pair of doubles with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Jadie Hasty, Lily Turberville and Elleigh Dossett had a double and a single each while Maddie Grace Teel each had two singles. Hasty and Hughes also had three RBIs each while Teel had two RBIs.

Olivia Lindsay and Destiny Lucy each had RBI singles. Turberville and Dossett also stole two bases each.

Annagayle Aultman earned the win, pitching three and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on five hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Teel started the game allowing six runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout in one and one-thirds innings of work.

Hughes closed out the game with a scoreless inning with one hit and two strikeouts.

 

Demopolis 0, West Blocton 12

Allie Hughes had the only hit in the loss. Lily Turberville and Caroline Hathcock were the only other base runners, reaching on a walk and a hit-by-pitch respectively.

Annagayle Aultman took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in two innings of work. Only one run was earned.

Hughes worked one and one-thirds innings of work allowing five runs on one hit and three walks.

Maddie Trace Teel worked two-thirds of an inning allowing one earned run on four hits. 

 

Demopolis 1, Hillcrest 12

Allie Hughes, Olivia Lindsay and Jadie Hasty had the only hits of the game. Lindsay scored the only run on a passed ball.

Hughes took the loss working one and one-third innings allowing three runs on two hits and one walk with a strikeout. Teel also pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing nine runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Only two of the nine runs were earned.
