Lady Tigers suffer heartbreakers

The Demopolis Lady Tigers suffered a pair of one-run losses at the hands of area rival Jemison 11-10 on March 11 and Bibb County 15-14 on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers return to action next week against Selma at home and then at Thomasville on Tuesday.

 

Demopolis 14, Bibb County 15

The Choctaws scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win. Demopolis could not win the game in the bottom of the inning. 

Caroline Hathcock hit a grand slam with four RBIs while Lily Turberville was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Olivia Lindsay and Lizzie Thornton each had two hits. Maddie Grace Teel, Allie Hughes and Salley Nettles each had hits.

Hughes opened the game going five innings with two strikeouts despite allowing nine runs on 10 hits and two walks. Teel also saw action but didn’t record an out. Annagayle Aultman took the loss. Two of the runs she allowed were unearned.

 

Demopolis 10, Jemison 11

The Lady Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the walk-off win.

Demopolis had scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead back, but they couldn’t hold off Jemison.

Lizzie Thornton led the way with two doubles and an RBI with three runs scored. Lily Turbervilel and Maddie Grace Teel each had two hits. Caroline Hathcock, Allie Hughes and Jadie Hasty all had hits. 

Hughes took the loss coming up one out short of finishing four innings. He had two strikeouts. Annagayle Aultman had six strikeouts in three innings of work allowing one earned run-on five hits and two walks. Teel played the first inning and recorded a strikeout despite allowing two earned runs on three hits and no walks.
