Demopolis softball rebounds with area win

The Demopolis Lady Tigers returned from a winless streak during its spring break tournament with a 20-0 over Selma on Monday.

The Lady Tigers had just seven hits in the game, but they were able to score three runs in the first inning and 17 runs in the second inning. 

Allie Hughes pitched three scoreless innings racking up six strikeouts while allowing a hit and a run. She also helped her cause by going 3-for-3 with a double and seven RBIs.

Lily Turberville, Olivia Lindsay and Maddie Grace Teel all scored three times while Hughes, Caroline Hathcock, Jadie Hasty, Annagayle Aultman and Elleigh Dossett all scored twice each. Lizzie Thornton scored once and drove in two runs. Aultman had a double and drove in two runs while Dossett also drove in two runs.

Lindsay, Dossett, Turberville and Hathcock all had two stolen bases each.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday at Hale County followed by a game with Montevallo on Tuesday.

 

Demopolis 3, Lawrence County 13

The Lady Tigers looked strong early leading 3-1 after the first inning, but eight runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning ended the game due to the mercy rule.

Allie Hughes drove in two runs on her double for the game’s only hit. Lily Turberville, Maddie Grace Teel and Lizzie Thornton scored the runs. 

Hughes took the loss allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and five walks with five strikeouts. However, 10 of the runs were unearned due to five Demopolis errors.

 

Demopolis 0, Gulf Shores 11

Lizzie Thornton and Jadie Hasty were the only two base runners reaching on a walk. 

Annagayle Aultman took the loss in one inning of work. Hughes also worked three innings.

 

Demopolis 0, Summertown 13

Maddie Grace Teel and Lizzie Thornton had the only hits for the game. 

Seven errors led to seven unearned runs. Hughes took the loss working the first inning. Annagayle Aultman worked two-thirds of an inning while Maddie Barkley worked one and one-third innings.

 

Demopolis 0, Grace Christian Academy 12

Lizzie Thornton had the Tigers’ only hit while Lily Turberville, Maddie Grace Teel and Allie Hughes drew walks.

Maddie Barkley took the loss in one and two-thirds innings of work. Annagayle Aultman pitched one and one-thirds innings with a strikeout. Teel also got outs against the only two batters she faced.

 

Demopolis 0, Silverdale Academy 2

Annagayle Aultman was on the losing end of a pitcher’s duel with Silverdale Academy’s Bita Cox, who pitched a perfect game getting 14 strikeouts against the 21 batters she faced.

Aultman allowed only two runs, both unearned, on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. A couple of errors led to the two runs Silverdale scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.
