Tigers get two wins over spring break

The Demopolis Tiger baseball team got wins over Bartlett (Tennessee) and Mary G. Montgomery.
Demopolis also fell in two close games to Bibb County and Mary G. Montgomery.
The Tigers will host Selma on Thursday at 4 p.m. and then travel to Selma on Friday. They will close out the week with a game at Montevallo on Tuesday.
Demopolis 5, Mary G. Montgomery 2 (10)
Roper Houldhitch got the extra inning win by going two and one-thirds innings of scoreless pitching with a strikeout.
Both teams scored runs in the first inning, as Colgrove pitched six and one-thirds innings with eight strikeouts. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks.
Josiah Colgrove came in and got the last two outs of the seventh inning but allowed a run before being relieved by Jack Pritchett, who allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning. Braxton Vice faced two batters before Houldhitch came in and pitched the rest of the way.
Bryant Deas led the hitting with a 3-for-4 effort with an RBI while Vice was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Both batters had a double.
Reed Schumacher had the only other hit with an RBI.
Jake Bumgarner walked with the bases loaded to give Demopolis the lead in the top of the 10th. Schumacher drove in Jake Powell on a sacrifice fly for the final run of the game.
Demopolis 14, Bartlett 2
Braxton Vice, Jake Powell, Roper Houldhitch and Reed Schumacher had two hits each in the win. Powell had a home run with five RBIs. Houldhitch had a double with an RBI. Josiah Colgrove had the other hit. Colton Colgrove, Josiah Colgrove, Vice and Jackson Hasty all had RBIs.
Jake Bumgarner pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks.
Demopolis 2, Bibb County 6
Jake Powell, Roper Houldhitch, Braxton Vice, Josiah Colgrove and Reed Schumacher had hits for the Tigers, but they could only muster two runs on the five hits.
Bryce McElroy took the loss allowing four runs (two unearned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings of work.
Jack Pritchett allowed two unearned runs on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in one inning.
Demopolis 0, Fairhope 1
Fairhope won the pitcher’s duel on a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning in walk-off fashion.
JW McAlpine pitched great for the Tigers racking up eight strikeouts through six and one-thirds innings. Until the final batter, he had only allowed one walk and no hits.
Reed Schumacher was the only batter to drawing a walk and stole second to get in scoring position in the second inning, but the final batter struck out.
Colton Colgrove and Roper Houldhitch also reached after being hit by a pitch. Braxton Vice sacrificed to put Houldhitch on second, but three straight strikeouts ended the threat.
