“This marks the 100th anniversary of the original Rooster Bridge, first named Memorial Bridge, as it was completed in 1925, six years after the 1919 Rooster Auction.” Brooker said. “This day isn’t just about roosters; it’s about celebrating this unique event in Alabama’s history.”

Rooster Day kicks off with the Cock’s Crow 5k and 1k Fun Run, perfect for both seasoned runners and families looking for a fun day out. The first 50 registered runners will snag a souvenir T-shirt. Additional run shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis while quantities last. Participants should register online at www.RoosterDayDemopolis.com.

After the race, dive into the Rooster Fair in Public Square, where attendees can explore a treasure trove of handmade and handcrafted items from talented artists and crafters across the region. From striking photography, wooden gliders, unique pottery and silver jewelry to all things honey and delightful baked goods, every booth offers something special.

The food court will feature a lineup of local food trucks and restaurants serving up mouthwatering barbecue, juicy burgers, crawfish, seafood, beignets and more. You won’t leave hungry.

Rooster Day also has a dedicated area just for children, packed with crafts, games, a petting zoo and inflatables. Kids can enjoy all the fun, including the second annual Touch-A-Truck. It’s a hit with children, giving them the chance to explore cool vehicles like fire trucks and dump trucks up close.

As you soak in the lively atmosphere, enjoy live performances from local singers and musicians, including Market Street Jazz, the volunteer jazz band that always brings a smile to the crowd.

Public Square, one of Alabama’s oldest green spaces, is the perfect backdrop for this celebration. With its charming iron fountain installed in 1895 and a serene pond filled with koi fish, it’s a place where memories are made.

Rooster Day is more than just a festival; it’s a tribute to the 1919 Rooster Auction that raised funds to build a bridge connecting Marengo and Sumter Counties. Can you believe a rooster was even sponsored by President Woodrow Wilson? And let’s not forget the little blue hen sponsored by Helen Keller.

Brittany Crawford, President of MCHS, can’t wait for this year’s event.

“I look forward to another great Rooster Day in historic downtown Demopolis,” Crawford said. “It’s exciting to see Public Square filled with visitors of all ages. Rooster Day has something for everyone.”

Celebrate our unique heritage, talented artists, and community spirit! Funds raised during Rooster Day help support the Marengo County Historical Society’s ongoing preservation efforts.
