Bulldogs split with West End, Corner

The Sweet Water Bulldogs got a 14-5 win over West End before falling to Class 5A Corner on the road in Jefferson County last week.

The Bulldogs now stand at 12-10 on the season. They will play Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Millry, at Thomasville on Thursday, at Bayshore Christian on Saturday at noon and at University Charter on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

 

Sweet Water 14, West End 5

Four different Bulldogs had multiple hits for Sweet Water in the win over West End. 

Sammie Walker had three hits with an RBI and a run scored. Tim Kelley had a triple and a single with four runs scored. Evan Dunn had two hits with an RBI and a run scored while Maitland Morgan added two hits and a run scored.

Other players with hits included Efrain Cardenas and DJ Lucy. Cardenas had two RBIs while Lucy scored twice and stole two bases.

Jordan McManus got the win allowing four runs on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over four and two-thirds innings. Evan Dunn allowed a run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout in one and one-third innings.

Sweet Water broke open a tight game with eight runs in the sixth inning to cruise to the win.

 

Sweet Water 3, Corner 15

The Bulldogs collected six hits but committed four errors in the loss. After Corner jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings, Sweet Water bounced back with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. 

However, Corner battled back and scored eight runs in the bottom of the stanza to earn the win.

Tim Kelley led the hitting with two hits. Bradyn Norris had a two-run triple with a run scored. Sammie Walker, Evan Dunn and Jordan McManus added the other hits. 

Walker took the loss starting the game and allowing four runs on three hits and no walks. DJ Lucy allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Brayden Dunn also saw action allowing eight runs on three hits and two walks. Only three runs were earned. Aiden Brown walked two batters in one-third inning of work.
