Demopolis dominates Selma for area wins

The Demopolis Tigers added a pair of area wins last week dominating Selma 19-0 and 20-2 in a doubleheader Thursday.

They also defeated Gordo 7-2 on March 25. The Tigers are now 13-9 on the season. They will host Montevallo for an area doubleheader on Thursday at 4 p.m. before heading on the road to Jemison on Tuesday.

 

Demopolis 7, Gordo 3

The Tigers used three runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to take the win over the Green Wave.

Colton Colgrove got the Tigers on the board with a two-run double in the fifth inning with two outs. Jake Powell followed it up with a ground-ball single to score Colgrove.

Jack Pritchett then doubled with one out in the sixth inning to score Bryant Deas. Jake Bumgarner hit a ground ball to score D’Quarius Banks.Tucker Capps then reached on an error to score Reed Schumacher. Capps then stole third base and came home on the catcher’s throwing error.

Pritchett then closed out the game pitching a scoreless four and two-thirds innings. He scattered four hits and recorded five strikeouts. Colgrove struck out three, but allowed three runs on three hits and three walks in two and one-third innings.

Powell and Pritchett each had two hits each. Schumacher had the other hit in the game. 

 

Dempolis 19, Selma 0

The Tigers took advantage of nine hits, seven walks and four errors to dominate the Saints on Thursday at Bloch Park.

Jake Powell finished with a triple and a double while Jackson Hasty, Bryant Deas and Braxton Vice all had doubles. Deas and Reed Schumacher ended the game with two hit each, as well. Michael Daniels had the other hit. Vice and Schumacher also racked up three RBIs each while Houldhitch and Deas had two RBIs each.

Bryce McElroy pitched a perfect three innings with seven strikeouts to get the win.

 

Demopolis 20, Selma 2

The Tigers got eight hits and 14 walks to take the second game of the doubleheader.

Devin Middlebrooks led the attack with a 3-for-3 day with a pair of doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored. 

D’Quarius Banks scored four times and drove in three runs after reaching on a double, two walks and a hit batsman. Gunnar Jordan and Wesley Middlebrooks had the other hits. Middlebrooks drove in two runs while Jordan drove in one. JW McApline scored three times after drawing three walks. Tucker Capps, Jake Bumgarner and Jackson Hasty all drove in two runs.

Hasty got the win allowing two unearned runs on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in three and one-third innings. Four errors by the Tiger defense led to the unearned runs.
