Tigers sweep Montevallo in key area series

The Demopolis Tiger baseball team swept an important area series last week against Montevallo to take control of the area standings.
The Tigers (16-9) won game 1 on the road 11-0 and then returned home for a 7-4 win in the second area game. The tiebreaker game ended with the Tigers winning 10-1.
This week, Demopolis plays its series with Jemison. They traveled on Tuesday but will return home for a Thursday doubleheader. The final regular season game will be held on Saturday.
The first round of the playoffs will be held on April 18-19.
Demopolis 11, Montevallo 0
Jake Bumgarner racked up 13 strikeouts while allowing only three hits and one walk in the mercy rule win. Josiah Colgrove only allowed a walk with a strikeout in one inning of work.
Offensively, Demopolis racked up 13 hits on the day. Reed Schumacher only lacked a home run to be able to hit the cycle. He had a single, double and triple with a run scored and two RBIs.
Jake Powell also had three hits with two singles and a double with four stolen bases, four runs scored and an RBI. Colton Colgrove had a pair of singles with a run and an RBI.
Bryce McElroy also had a double with three RBIs while Braxton Vice, Roper Houldhitch, Jackson Hasty and Micheal Daniels all had hits.
Demopolis 7, Montevallo 4
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game in the third inning.
However, Demopolis got control of the game back with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Tigers then turned to the bullpen to get the win. Jack Pritchett pitched the final four and two-thirds innings with nine strikeouts despite two walks to shut down Montevallo.
Josiah Colgrove pitched the first two and one-third innings before running into trouble in the third inning. He had two strikeouts allowing four runs on three this and two walks.
Demopolis only had five hits, but they made them count. Reed Schumacher continued his hot strieak with two hits in the bottom of the order with two runs scored.
Jake Bumgarner, Jack Pritchett and Jake Powell had the other hits. Bumgarner also scored twice while Colgrove, Powell, Braxton Vice and Pritchett all had RBIs. Colgrove and Powell also recorded stolen bases.
Demopolis 10, Montevallo 1
The Tigers took advantage of six errors to get the sweep of Montevallo. Roper Houldhitch and Tucker Capps each had doubles with Capps driving in two runs and Houldhitch scoring a run.
Michael Daniels, Reed Schumacher, Josiah Colgrove, Connor Reynolds and JW McAlpine all had hits.
McAlpine allowed one run in the first inning on one hit and three walks with two strikeouts. Houldhitch then came on and pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts.
