Lady Tigers get two area wins

The Demopolis Lady Tigers stayed in the hunt for a regular season area championship by defeating Jemison 11-0 and Montevallo 8-5 last week.

In tournament play on Friday and Saturday, the Lady Tigers lost four games to Gordo 6-0, John Carroll 10-9, West Blocton 8-2 and John Carroll again 10-4.

The Lady Tigers (10-20) traveled to American Christian Academy on Tuesday, April 8. The game had not been played as of press time. The next scheduled game will be at Montevallo Tuesday, April 15, to close out area play with just a little over a week left in the regular season.

Demopolis 8, Montevallo 5

The Lady Tigers opened the game with a three-run second inning. Jadie Hasty drove in Olivia Lindsay on a base hit. Lily Turberville had a two-run single to score Annagayle Aultman and Hasty. 

Montevallo answered with three runs in the third inning. Turberville scored a sacrifice by Caroline Hathcock to take a 4-3 lead.

Montevallo tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but Aultman got an RBI on a ground out to score Lizzie Thornton. Hasty reached on an error to score Lindsay to make it 6-4 through five innings.

Thornton added an insurance run on an RBI single to score Maddie Grace Teel. Lindsay hit a sacrifice fly to score Allie Hughes.

Montevallo got one run in the seventh inning, but that a wasn’t enough.

Thornton and Turberville had two hits each while Teel, Lindsay, Aultman, Hasty and Elliegh Dossett had the other hits.

Aultman took the win allowing four runs, three of which were unearned, on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Teel pitched a perfect fifth inning. Then Hughes came on to get the final six outs and seal the win.

 

Demopolis 11, Jemison 0

The Lady Tigers broke open a close game with eight runs in the fourth inning. Four different Tigers had two hits, including Lily Turberville, Maddie Grace Teel, Olivia Lindsay and Ellieigh Dossett. Lindsay had a triple and a double while Teel’s hits were both doubles. Caroline Hathcock, Allie Hughes, Lizzie Thornton and Jadie Hasty had the other hits.

Hughes racked up six strikeouts in the five-inning game, allowing only three hits and one walk.

 

Demopolis 0, Gordo 6

Caroline Hathcock and Maddie Grace Teel had the only hits for Demopolis in the loss to the Green Wave.

Allie Hughes took the loss despite allowing only four hits and one walk, but three defensive errors led to six unearned runs.

 

Demopolis 9, John Caroll 10

After falling behind 3-1, Demopolis scored six runs in the top of the third inning to lead 7-3. John Carroll cut the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Demopolis then got a couple of insurance runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead 9-6.

However, John Carroll scored four runs in the fourth inning to win in walk-off fashion.

Allie Hughes only needed a triple to complete the cycle. She had a home run, a single and a double with four RBIs.Maddie Grace Teel also had two hits. Caroline Hathcock, Lily Turvberville and Jadie Hasty also had hits.

Hughes took the loss. In two and one-third innings of work. Teel also had a strikeout in one inning.

 

Demopolis 2, West Blocton 8

Elleigh Dossett had the only hit for Demopolis. She and Allie Hughes scored the only runs of the game. Hughes, Annagayle Aultman and Maddie Barkley all pitched in the four-inning game. Aultman led the team with two strikeouts.

 

Demopolis 4, John Carroll 10

Six errors led to six unearned runs that proved to be the difference.

Annagayle Aultman, Maddie Grace Teel and Maddie Barkley all saw pitching action. Teel recorded the only strikeout of the game.

Teel also had two this with a run and an RBI. Lily Turberville, Allie Hughes, Lizzie Thornton and Olivia Lindsay all had hits.
