Sweet Water beats Excel on a wild pitch

DJ Lucy scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Sweet Water a 12-11 win over Excel on Wednesday April 2.

The Bulldogs got into a seesaw battle with Excel. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the second inning including a home run by Tim Kelley to take a 5-1 lead.

Excel got the lead back with seven runs in the third inning. Sweet Water chipped away at the lead with a two-run fourth inning.

After Excel added a run in the top of the fifth inning, Sweet Water took control of the game with four in the bottom of the stanza.

Excel tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but Lucy’s run home on a wild pitch sealed the win.

Nate Norris shut them down in the seventh inning to get the win, as Kelley caught the final out on a fly ball.

Sammie Walker and Kelley led the way with two hits each. Norris and Lucy had the other hits. Lucy scored three times in the game to go along with three stolen bases.

Evan Dunn allowed just one earned run on 11 hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Aiden Brown only allowed one run in one inning while Lucy allowed two runs on a hit and a walk.

Norris had two strikeouts in his seventh inning appearance.

The Bulldogs also fell to Thomasville 13-3 and Bayshore Christian 14-2.
