The Sweet Water baseball team is your champion of Class 1A, Area 4.
Before the Bulldogs head into the playoffs, they took on Class 1A, Area 5 winner University Charter in what could be a preview of a playoff baseball game.
However, the Bulldogs committed a couple of errors that led to both unearned runs in a 2-0 loss on Tuesday, April 8.
Sweet Water finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-13. They will take on Leroy (20-7) in the first round of the state playoffs. Games 1 and 2 will be at 4 and 6 p.m. on Friday. Game 3 will be at noon on Saturday if necessary.
Evan Dunn had a double and a hit batsman against UCS while Tim Kelley, Jordan McManus and Nate Norris all had singles. The only other Bulldog to reach base was Efrain Cardenas on a hit batsman.
Gage Megginson allowed two unearned runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings. Sammie Walker got the final out of the sixth inning with a strikeout.
The two teams could play again in the playoffs in the state semifinals. The winner of Sweet Water-Leroy would play the winner of Billingsley-Verbena next week.
